Stock piling
I have decided to stock pile a few things household items so I won't have to purchase them for a while. Tonight I finished purchasing the last of laundry detergent, so I will go on to the next thing. Toilet paper/paper towel and fabric softner liquid.
Items that I have enough of:
Feminine hygiene
Body wash
Tooth paste and tooth brushes
Deodorant
Laundry detergent
I would like to have at least 3-4 months of toiletries on stock so I won't have to worry about them.
This is the shop that completed my laundry items.
10 - Surf detergent
Price before rain check price and coupons: $53.36
Price after rain check price adjustment and coupons: $5.95 (which includes tax).
When I talk about stock piling, I'm talking about having items on hand so I won't have to purchase them for a while. I am not talking about purchasing so many items that I have to put up additional shelves in my garage, etc. I will use the space that I have...I'm not hoarding!

Coupons allow you to stock pile staples
So I went to Harris Teeter to partake in the Super Doubles savings. 15-21 September 2010
All I got were frozen vegetables that will last my family and I a few months. I had some already in my freezer so these just added to the stock pile.
60 various Green Giant frozen vegetables.
So that is like paying .0233 cents for each box after the coupons and the "on your next purchase" money back coupons. Now that's a 93% savings!
These will last my family for a bit so anything that I get now, I will just share with a family.

Quick shop for donating!
I ran in Publix to pick up some baby food that was Buy One Get One so that I could donate it to a local pregnancy center in my area.
See, I don't just shop for the things that I need but for things that I can get that don't cost me and my family much but we can donate it to help others in our community. Donating those items (even while on Unemployment) makes me feel like I'm doing something to help in my community. **You never know what the next person is going through!!
Other places that need our assistance:
Nursing homes (they could benefit from Ensure, Depends, Glucose monitors, etc).
Humane Society (SPCA) (they are always in need of cat and dog food and kitty litter).
Local schools (they can always use hand sanitizer, school supplies--and of course your time).
Church/food pantries (your overflow of non-perishable food items and personal hygiene).
Donating these items doesn't require much because you can get them when they are on sale for little to nothing and you couple the sales with coupons and there you have it!!!
2 - Toaster's Strudel
2 - Bailey's Irish Creme coffee creamer
44 - Beech-nut 2 baby food.
Used: 3 - $2 coupons for Beech-nut baby food
2 - $1 coupons for the creamer
1 - $1/2 coupon for the Toaster's Strudel
Total before sales and coupons: $33.64
Out of pocket cost: $8.60
Savings: 74%

Quick videos of a one-on-one in the "blue" store to do the Gain dish detergent and then off to the commissary to do the Wisk and Tide. My student wanted to use all her coupons so she got other things as well.
Here is the break down of what she got (the items on the car) and the final cost:

An in-store coupon class!
Well after talking a good friend through getting her coupons set and ready for a real shop...we ventured in the "blue" store and the commissary (military grocery store).
With the sales at the commissary and the low cost of one item at the "blue" store, we came out great.
I work on a weekly budget and this week my budget for household/hygiene items was a whopping $26.43. Did I come in under budget? Hmm, let me let you see what I got for what I had in my money envelope!
Breakdown:
10 - Gain dish detergent
6 - Mr Clean cleaning products
10 - WISK
1 - Charmin
6 - Mr Clean Erasers
2 - Kaboodle wet wipes
1 - Small Steps paper towel
5 - Tide
Walmart (the "blue" store): OOP $ 0.42
Commissary: OOP $30.59 ($4.30 was surcharge--so actual price with out surcharge would have been $26.43). So in essence I did come within my budget but going forward I will build in an extra $5 in my weekly budget to catch that surcharge, should I decide to do my personal hygiene/household shopping at the commissary. If I find deals somewhere else I will just put that $5 in my savings jar.
All the coupons used came from the mail call I got yesterday from Mad Coupons.

Coupon Inserts
There will be two inserts in upcoming Sunday's paper (09.12.10):
Why so many? Ordering multiple papers is the key to stretching your dollar even further when you do Buy One Get One sales and to stockpile on items that are in heavy rotation in your home (toiletries, cereal, snacks, etc). This is how I have stocked piled a lot of items that I have in my pantry and bathroom cabinets and linen closet.
- Smart Source
- Red Plum

Where o' where do you get all those coupons?
There are several ways you can obtain your coupons:
- Newspaper (if you don't subscribe, ask your neighbors, church members and co-workers if you can have their coupon inserts--that's if they don't coupon. Funny story--I even asked an older gentleman that was walking out the store if he was going to use his coupons--went home with an extra set of coupons)
- Online (redplum.com, smartsource.com, coupon.com)
- In store ads
- Manufacturer's website
- Coupon distributors (this is where I get the majority of my coupons--as it's more cost effective for me since I am known to purchase up to 10 papers. I love this option because I don't have to worry about recycling the 9 other unread newspapers. This service sends you TEN of each insert that is in the Sunday's paper. Multiple newspaper is how you will begin your stockpile)

Why Coupon?
Why should one coupon? There are many reasons people coupon. Some do it to pay off debt, help save for college, for a vacation, or build a savings. But let me tell you how I came to coupon. After being laid off in January 2010, I had to figure out a way to be able to still provide for my family while being on Unemployment benefits until employment came along.
After I got over the initial shock of being unemployed, I started searching the internet mid-February to find out more about coupon-ing and I came upon Coupon Mama's site in Rock Hill SC. I was immediately drawn to her because her ministry lined up with my spirit--I think she says that numerous times in her classes that the person you learn from should line up with your spirit. There are so many sites out there that teach you how to coupon but her coupon-ing was based totally on the word of God and how we should be a good steward of whatever he's blessed us with. Her motto for her coupon-ing ministry spoke to me...SHOP.SAVE.SHARE. After talking with her over FaceBook and email, I started coupon-ing faithfully in March 2010. God blessed me to be able to go to one of her classes in June and I learned even more from her. Her testimony and ministry has truly blessed me and my family. Though I didn't set out to start teaching coupon-ing classes, I just see that there are so many people around me that I can bless just by sharing what I learned from her. I'm still learning myself and I still lean on her for advise, but what I have learned why not share it?
My desire is to be able to help as many people that I can who are willing to learn how to a better steward of what has blessed them with while making their dollar stretch in these tough times and beyond. I've spoken financial stability and freedom for my family, why not help someone else get there. I know that without God's grace none of this would be possible for me.
